Lenovo's next smartphone is going to project a touchscreen onto any surface

Cause glass screens are overrated anyway.

TECH COMPANY Lenovo has unveiled a smartphone that can beam a touchscreen onto your desk.

Announcing the new device at Lenovo Tech World conference, the Smart Cast uses an integrated focus-free laser projector (handheld projectors normally use Digital Light Processing to display images) to help turn any surface into a touch display.

Laying the phone on its back will display your screen like a normal projector but by turning the projector cap, and using the built-in kickstand, you can project the same screen or a different section onto your desk or table.

The idea is you can use it to project a keyboard so you can type out messages, play games or as the trailer shows, play virtual piano keys.

And that’s all the details revealed so far. There are a number of questions that remain unanswered like projection quality, how long it can last on battery power and how well the projector can recognise gestures and movements, as well as availability and pricing.

Until then, you can watch the teaser trailer below and wonder if it will live up to the promise.
