'All three kids can jump in for a cuddle': Gabrielle shares her newly renovated guest bedroom

“I like a lot of whites and neutrals with easy-to-change pops of colour.”

EACH WEEK, WE ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Gabrielle Healy has lived in Trim, Co Meath for the last 15 years, and recently renovated the entire ground floor of her house.  “We bought this house when it was around four years old,” says Gabrielle.

We didn’t do much with it at first as we were both working long hours, but once the kids came along and we spent more time at home, we decided to get rid of all the orange pine, bright pink and yellow walls and wasted space. We renovated the whole ground floor and moved walls to make the space work better for a growing family.

This week, Gabrielle (@lets_renovate1) chatted us through her favourite spot: her new guest bedroom.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I love this new bedroom and en-suite bathroom because it’s on ground floor level and so handy for guests.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

I think it’s the big bed and headboard. It’s so comfy and huge – all three kids can jump in for a cuddle!

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

I love fresh, bright and airy spaces. I like a lot of whites and neutrals, mixed with easy-to-change pops of colour, like soft furnishings and prints. There are so many great accounts to follow on Instagram and get ideas from. Pinterest is a good resource, too.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

I tidied the dressing table up as it was cluttered with my makeup, but it’s not even in the photo after all! This room is usually tidy as we don’t really use it much. It’s more for visitors and when grandparents visit, as it’s nice for them not to have to climb the stairs all the time. However, because it’s downstairs and has good lighting, I seem to have adopted it as my place to do my makeup.

Is there anything in here you’d like to change?

Not yet! There is one corner (not in the shot) where I’m going to get some fitted storage built in when I decide on something.
