'The bath gets loads of use, so it was money well spent': Mary shares her spa-inspired space

‘I wanted this to be a calm, chilled room.’

EACH WEEK, WE ask someone based in Ireland with a passion for interiors to share one photo of their favourite spot in their home.

Mary O’Gorman lives in a self-build bungalow in Co Wexford with her boyfriend Alan.

“Alan did a lot of work himself, with the help of family and friends, so I definitely felt very proud of him throughout for the amount of time and effort he put into the build,” says Mary.

“There are three of us including our dog Bear, and we are all in love with our new home.”

This week, Mary (@life_down_the_lane) chatted us through her favourite spot: her bathroom.

What do you love about this part of your home?

I love that it’s a really relaxed space. A lot of the rooms in our house are full of colour, but I wanted our main bathroom to be more spa-like so I could really relax when enjoying a bath.

What’s your favourite object in here and why?

It’s 100% the bath. I always wanted a freestanding one and this is the dream. It’s really long so I can stretch right out in it. A lot of people said it would be an expensive ornament, but it’s used two to three times a week in this house, so it’s money well spent.

What was your inspiration when you were putting this room together?

My inspiration for here came from spa breaks that I have been on in the past. I wanted it to be a calm, chilled space. We both play sport and have busy jobs so it’s lovely to run a bath, light some candles, listen to music and take some proper time out to relax.

Be honest: how much tidying did you do before taking this photo?

We only moved in to our house in September, so I’m still quite good at keeping it clean and tidy. You never know when someone will pop around to see it!

Is there anything in here you’d like to change?

Yes, I definitely want to change the light fitting. We just put in a basic one but eventually I’d like to put in something a bit more special.
