'Strange light' moving across Ireland may be result of US rocket launch

Footage and images shared on social media show a bright, hazy light overhead.

A “STRANGE LIGHT” moving across the sky has been spotted across parts of Ireland this evening.

There have been multiple reports of the light moving in the sky from west to east. Footage and images shared on social media show a bright, hazy light overhead.

In the last hour, there have been numerous theories shared – including that it could be the beginnings of an alien invasion – but the overriding and most likely theory is that it is the result of a rocket launch by SpaceX today.

The light pictured overhead has, in some images, similar characteristics to the swirl of light seen after other SpaceX launches, which is caused by the dumping of fuel.

SpaceX launched 29 more of its Starlink internet satellites to orbit today, sending them up from Florida’s Space Coast.

The Falcon 9′s first stage returned to Earth as planned 8.5 minutes later, while its upper stage continued carrying the 29 Starlink satellites toward low Earth orbit.

SpaceX is a private American aerospace and space transportation company founded and majority owned by Elon Musk.

It is sending satellites into orbit in an effort to build its Starlink megaconstellation, which currently consists of over 8,000 satellites. It plans to grow much bigger.
