Garda Ombudsman investigating Limerick incident in which two pedestrians died

In a bad night for road collisions, two pedestrians are killed in an incident involving a garda car in Limerick, an Offaly man dies in a single vehicle crash, and a woman dies from injuries sustained in a crash in Tallaght last week.

AN INCIDENT IN which two pedestrians were struck by a car and killed in the Dooradoyle area of Limerick last night has been referred to the Garda Ombudsman for investigation, gardaí have said.

A garda spokesman confirmed to TheJournal.ie that a garda car was involved in the incident, but said more details would not be released until after the investigation.

The Ombudsman investigates complaints concerning the conduct of members of the Garda Síochána, and incidents involving garda vehicles.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Tullamore in County Offaly are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic collision which occurred at Derryadd, Killeigh. The crash happened just after 10pm last night, when a car left the road and struck a fence. The 17 year old male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. A male passenger, who was only other occupant of the car, sustained minor injuries.

The scene of the collision remains closed this morning pending a technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Anyone who may have witnessed this collision is asked to contact the Gardaí at Tullamore 057-9327600, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

A 19-year-old woman, who had been involved in a crash on the N81 near Tallaght on 8 January, died from her injuries in Tallaght Hospital yesterday.
