LIVE: British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly takes place in Dublin

The 44th plenary session of the group, which includes members from Britain, Ireland and crown dependencies, is being held in the Seanad chamber for the first time.

THE SEANAD CHAMBER of Leinster House will play host to members of the House of Commons, the assemblies for Scotland, Ireland and Wales, and parliamentarians from other crown dependencies today.

They will be attending the biannual plenary session of the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly, which is being held in the upper house of the Oireachtas for the first time.

The two-day event, being co-chaired by Fine Gael TD Joe McHugh and Conservative MP Laurence Robertson, will be addressed by Enda Kenny this afternoon on the subject of business links between the two countries.

Other items on the agenda include a discussion on the role of transport in supporting business and tourism, led by Leo Varadkar, and a forum on the possibility of shared health services led by junior health minister Roisin Shortall.

Celebrity chef Darina Allen will also address members, discussing opportunities for common growth in the food sector.

The 68-member assembly was established in 1990 as a forum for members of the Houses of Parliament and the Oireachtas to expand their understanding of bilateral issues.

It has since been expanded to include members of the assemblies of Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey.
