29-year-old man due in court over Longford carjacking

A second man in the car is in critical condition in hospital.

A 29-YEAR-OLD man is due in court this afternoon charged in connection with an assault and carjacking in Longford on Wednesday.

A woman in her 40s was injured after being attacked by two men in a car park on Ballymahon Street.

She was forced into her car by the men and driven away at speed. Gardaí spotted the car and followed it and it later crashed into a ditch on the Athlone Road.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital from the scene and was reported to be in critical condition yesterday. The woman was also taken to hospital but her injuries were not life threatening.

A second man fled but was later arrested a short distance away and was held overnight at Longford Garda Station.

He is now scheduled to appear before a special sitting of Longford District Court at 4pm today.
