Man in critical condition after being struck by van which failed to stop in Longford

The incident happened in the early hours of Sunday morning.

GARDAÍ IN LONGFORD are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the main street in Edgeworthstown in the early hours of Sunday morning.

A man in his 20s was walking when he was struck by a silver Ford Transit van at approximately 2.30am.

The van did not remain at the scene.

The pedestrian suffered serious head injuries and was initially taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar, before later being transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

He remains in a critical condition this evening.

Gardaí have set up an incident room at Granard Garda Station, and are trying to trace the movements of the van both before and after the crash.

They are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Edgeworthstown area between 2am and 3am yesterday, or anyone with information, and are asking them to contact Granard Garda Station on 043 668 7660.
