6 amazing places to escape to when you win the Lotto

Are you dreaming of your place in the sun?

LAST WEEK, WE asked you what was the first thing you’d do after winning the Lotto.

Unsurprisingly, an overwhelming amount of you mentioned downing tools and racing off on holidays.

While 24% of you would jet off instantly on holidays, 75% said their first priority would be settling up their bills before the big splurge. However, despite the order of business, most of you still spoke about the dream places you’d escape to after the big win. Here’s a run-down of the places we’d all love to head to after a big Lotto windfall.

1. Your own personal island

This was a popular one. Commenter David Dowling revealed his idea:

I’d tell nobody at first then send a jet to pick them all up and fly them to the island I’ve just bought.

While William Bayle added,

Set up my kids for life and off to the airport probably buy an island somewhere in d Pacific Ocean

2. Donegal

Patricia McCann shares her post-Lotto plans with us, saying:

Pay off my mortgage in Wexford and buy a house in Donegal to be near my family . The luxury of no debt would be wonderful.

3. South of France

Popeye said,

I’d make sure extended family were taken care of with a fair few bob, then I’d move my own family to the South of France probably within a week of winning

Nice, Cannes, Antibes… Where on the Riviera would you spend your Lotto winnings?

4. Manhattan

David Linehan told us that he’d,

Buy an apartment in the upper east side of manhattan.

And Tony Skillington one-upped him by adding,

“Buy Manhattan…”

Ah, Tony, we think you might need more than a Lotto win to buy Manhattan but we admire you dreaming big!

5. Las Vegas

The very generous high-roller Fran Higgins had this up his sleeve:

Invite all my family for a lovely meal in a 5 star hotel to break the news, Clear all their money problems, and give them all a big pay check so they will never have money problems ever again, Bring them all on a trip to Las Vegas and really have a ball, when I get back home sort out nieces and nephews relatives and some friends!

6. And finally…

Not content with just one dream destination, some of you plumped for going around the world instead. Declan Moylan had this to add,

I’d feck off around the world for a year or so, after stapling my notice to my boss’ head.

Ah now, Lorelai.

Then off 3 week holiday (world cruise?) then depending on amount – house/apartment, car (Saab, Volvo, merc, similar not top of range), get business moving, some to various charities, any left look at invest oh and give all friends and relatives the magnificent sum of €0.50 each with advice not too spend all at once!

Donal O Neil gets the last word on it,

round world trip slow time going anti clockwise first in northern hemisphere then when I get back a quick shave wash then collect next months and head clockwise Southern Hemisphere . In meantime would make major donations to crumlin kids hospital , worthy causes and no name given . Then get that boat and turn right out of Baltimore harbour and head westerly and do round world trip as slowly as possible … But first I have to win it

Our thoughts exactly, Donal.
