Man dies after Louth crash

A 19-year-old man was struck by a car when attempting to cross the old M1.

GARDAÍ IN DROGHEDA are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that left a 19-year-old man dead.

The incident occurred last night on the old N1, five miles north of Drogheda, at about 8.30pm.

A male pedestrian was fatally injured when he was struck by a car while attempting to cross the road. The male driver of the vehicle was uninjured.

The man was removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital where a full post mortem is to be arranged.

The Monasterboice exit from the M1 travelling south was closed over night to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and has since reopened.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact Drogheda Garda Station on 041-9874200, the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111 or any Garda Station.
