AFTER 10AM TODAY, private cars will not be permitted to drive down half of Dawson Street, and there will be a contra-flow lane introduced for the new Luas line.
This means that only trams will be permitted full access to Dawson Street.
Buses will have partial access, and all other vehicles will have access between Stephen’s Green and the turn off for Molesworth Street.
There will be no access changes for pedestrians.
As you can see from the map, the changes are a little confusing, so here’s a clearer breakdown.
From Molesworth Street to Duke Street
There will be a two-way traffic flow between Molesworth Street and Duke Street.
Going northbound (towards Trinity College), only trams and buses are permitted here, and all other traffic must turn right onto Molesworth Street to exit the area.
In the southbound direction, only trams will be permitted. Vehicles exiting Duke Street and Dawson Lane must travel southbound onto Dawson Street and turn left onto Molesworth Street to exit the area.
From Duke Street to Nassau Street
Only buses and trams will be permitted in the northbound direction with a contra-flow tram lane in the southbound direction.
Vehicles on Duke Street and Dawson Lane looking to exit the area must travel southbound on Dawson Street and turn left onto Molesworth Street to exit the area.
In October, the right hand turn at the end of Dawson Street closed for buses, affecting a number of Dublin Bus routes. From today, all traffic won’t be permitted to take the right hand turn onto Nassau Street.
The changes are part of a number of permanent road diversions to allow for the new Luas Cross City Project, which aims to link up the Red and Green Luas lines.
