WHAT’S THE STORY?
1. GERRY Adams is taking legal action against the Irish Independent and the Belfast Telegraph over a story which claimed he was tipped off about the PSNI’s case against his brother, Liam Adams.
2. THE HSE downplayed fears about the closure of maternity services at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe but one TD believes there is more at play. Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan claims staff were told to keep the news under wraps until after the elections.
3. THE OFFICE of the Taoiseach has claimed a ‘clerical error’ following accusations by Sinn Féin that an undisclosed meeting was held between Alan Shatter and Enda Kenny on the Sunday before Martin Callinan resigned.
4. TWO Times of London journalists were lucky to escape Syria for Turkey yesterday after being double-crossed, kidnapped, shot and beaten by their guides as they worked.
5. THE countdown has started. Finance Minister has said Budget 2015 will ‘probably be read on 14 October. That’s 152 days away. Remember though – the government said 2014′s was the “last of the difficult budgets“.
