WHAT’S THE STORY? 1. Alan Shatter will reveal today if he will accept up to €70,000 in severance payments. The Taoiseach and Tánaiste have both said that although they don’t know for sure what he’s going to do, they expect he will do the ‘honourable thing’ and not take the money.

2. But there could be an even bigger shock in store as the Irish Independent says there are rumours the former Minister will resign his Dáil seat altogether this afternoon. We’ll know more at 2.30pm… Watch this space.

3. GSOC has launched an investigation into the death of a 23-year-old man in Kildare yesterday afternoon. The deceased had been in custody prior to this death, with gardaí stating that he was intoxicated when he was arrested in Maynooth.

4. Thailand’s army chief has announced on State television that the military has taken control of government in a coup d’etat. It comes two days after the military placed the country under martial law. These two locals don’t seem bothered though, the military taking control in Thailand is a relatively regular occurrence, last happening in 2006.

5. As we head towards the broadcast moratorium, there was lots of election buzz this morning. However, it wasn’t all good news for candidates. Sinn Féin’s Cathal O’Reilly has pulled out of the race in Ennis after anti-Traveller comments made by him three years ago resurfaced. We also discovered who Nidge will be voting for.
