Lurgan town centre declared safe following hoax

A van was hijacked yesterday evening before the driver was forced to drive towards the town’s police station.

POLICE IN LURGAN have removed a security alert on Lurgan town centre after a suspicious incident which occurred there last night was declared a hoax.

Army bomb disposal experts carried out examinations of a suspicious van discovered in near the police station in the Church Place area last night.

The van had been hijacked in the Lurgantarry area on Wednesday evening at approximately 5.30pm – the driver was then forced to drive to the location.

Following examination, experts declared the incident to be a hoax as nothing untoward was found in the van.

The driver was left uninjured but badly shaken, according to police.
