Man charged over machete attack on teenage girl in Cork

An 18-year-old was struck on the side of her head with a machete.

A 30-YEAR-OLD man has been charged over a machete attack on a teenage girl in Cork last night.

The 18-year-old was attacked from behind in an attempted robbery and was struck on the side of the head with a machete.

The girl received a wound above her ear.

The attack happened at around 10:15pm last night in the Shandon area.

It’s understood the man was trying to steal the teenager’s handbag.

A man was arrested by gardaí as he attempted to leave the scene. A machete was also recovered.

A 30-year-old man is due to appear before Cork City Court charged in connection with the attack at 10 o’clock tomorrow morning.
