Machete used in Waterford aggravated burglary

A man in his 20s has been detained by gardaí.

GARDAÍ have arrested a man aged in his 20s in connection with an aggravated burglary in the city overnight.

A man wielding a machete forced his way into a family home at Meadowbank, off the Cork Road, at around 2am.

He threatened one of the residents and then fled the scene. No-one was injured in the course of the incident.

Investigating gardaí detained a man in his 20s in the Waterford area in connection with the burglary at around midday today.

He has been taken for questioning to Waterford Garda Station, and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
