Man in his 40s to appear in court over assault that left man (20) still recovering month later

Two men in their 40s were arrested over the assault this week

A MAN IN his 40s is expected to appear in court over the serious assault of a 20-year-old man last month.

The young man was assaulted at around 11pm on 30 August behind a car park on Castle Street in Roscommon. He suffered multiple stab wounds.

He was taken by ambulance to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe where his condition was described as “serious”. He remains in recovery.

Two men in their 40s were arrested over the assault this week. One man was arrested in Ballinasloe on Tuesday morning 26 September, while another man was arrested in Athlone on Wednesday morning 27 September.

The man arrested in Ballinasloe was released without charge and the other man arrested in Athlone is due to appear in court.

He will appear before a special sitting of Roscommon District Court at 8.45pm this evening charged in connection with the case.

Investigating gardaí are continuing to appeal for information. They are particularly appealing to anyone who was in the Castle Street area between to 10.30pm and 11.30pm to come forward.
