Man and woman arrested after serious assault in Cork

A 40-year-old man sustained serious head injuries during an altercation at a house in Cork.

A 40-YEAR-OLD MAN has been seriously injured during an assault at a house in Cork last night.

Gardaí are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident in which the man sustained serious head injuries during an altercation at a house in Fermoy. The assault happened in the Rathcarrig area of Cork at around 8.30pm last night.

A man and woman, both aged in their mid-20s, were arrested at the scene.

They are both currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at Fermoy Garda Station, under which they can be detained for up to 24 hours.

The man was taken to Cork University Hospital and the scene has been preserved pending a technical examination.
