Man arrested in England over 2001 murder

Pensioner Norman Moffatt, 73, was walking home after buying a paper in Coleraine when he was stabbed in January 2001.

DETECTIVES HAVE arrested a man in England on suspicion of murdering pensioner Norman Moffatt in Coleraine in 2001.

The 41-year-old was taken into custody in in the Stockport area of north-west England and will now be brought back to Northern Ireland for questioning.

Norman Moffatt, 73, was walking home after buying a paper in a local shop in Coleraine, Co Derry, on the morning of January 26 2001 when he was stabbed.

A man is believed to have attacked him in the area between Railway Road and Circular Road in the town at around 7am.

Moffatt was taken to hospital, but died almost two months later on March 19 2001.

The suspect will be held in the Antrim Serious Crime Suite for questioning, the PSNI said.
