Man arrested in connection with Jonny Cooper stabbing

The Dublin defender was stabbed on Dorset Street in Dublin.

GARDAÍ HAVE ARRESTED a man they believe stabbed Dublin footballer Jonny Cooper.

Gardaí in Mountjoy say that they have arrested a 31-year-old man in relation to the serious assault that occurred in the early hours of the morning of 20 September, on Dorset Street in Dublin.

Cooper was removed to the Mater Hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

The arrested man is currently detained at Mountjoy Garda Station under Section 4 of Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Gardaí say that they are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the assault, to contact Mountjoy Garda Station on 01 – 6668600 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.

Cooper was on a night out when the attack occurred.

The stabbing was described on RTÉ Crimecall as a “totally unprovoked, random attack”.
