Man arrested over false imprisonment of Raheny family in 2005

The 49-year-old was arrested in Amsterdam today.

A MAN WAS arrested in Amsterdam today in connection with a crime that occurred in Dublin over seven years ago.

Gardaí in Raheny said the arrest of the 49-year-old is in relation to the false imprisonment of a family in the Ashcroft Estate of Raheny on the 13 and 14 March 2005.

The suspect was detained on foot of a European arrest warrant and conveyed to Dublin Airport. He has been taken to Raheny Garda Station where he remains in custody.

He will be charged with the false imprisonment in the Dublin District Court tomorrow morning.

Earlier this year, the Court of Criminal Appeal quashed the convictions of three men jailed for the kidnapping of the Richardson family and for forcing Paul Richardson, a Securicor driver to hand over €2.28 million in cash.

The three Dublin men had been found guilty of the crimes three years previously.
