Man arrested as woman (80s) dies two days after incident at house in Cork

A woman was taken to Cork University Hospital today, where she passed away from her injuries.

A WOMAN IN her 80s has died after what gardaí believe was a serious assault in a domestic incident at her home in Carrigaline, Co Cork.

A man in his 30s has been arrested by gardaí, and is currently being questioned in connection with the death of the woman.

It is understood that the woman was injured in the incident, which happened on Sunday.

While the woman did not initially require medical assistance, she subsequently became unwell.

She was transported to Cork University Hospital earlier today, where she was later pronounced dead.

The house in Carrigaline has been preserved for technical examination by local gardaí.

The Office of the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified. A post-mortem examination will has be arranged.

A Senior Investigating Officer (SIO) has been appointed to lead the investigation, and a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) has been assigned to provide support and information to the deceased’s family.

Gardaí said that investigations are ongoing.
