Man charged after €60k-worth of cannabis found in car during routine checkpoint

Three large bags of cannabis herb were discovered when gardaí stopped a Ford Focus.

A MAN HAS been charged after cannabis herb worth €60,000 was seized during a routine speed checkpoint in Co Wicklow.

Gardaí were conducting a checkpoint on the M11 at Ashford on Thursday evening when they stopped a black Ford Focus car.

During the course of the incident, the vehicle was seized under Section 41 of Road Traffic Act and subsequently searched. Three large bags of cannabis herb were discovered. The estimated street value of the drugs seized is €60,000, subject to analysis.

The man in his late 40s was charged yesterday evening and bailed to appear before Bray District Court at 10.30am on 20 September.
