Man charged with killing of Irish woman in South Africa

Cecily Clark was killed by an intruder in her home.

A 25-YEAR-OLD MAN HAS been charged with murder and robbery in relation to the death of a 67 year-old Irish woman at her home in Capetown last Wednesday.

Cecily Clark, who was originally from Shankill in Dublin, was alone in her home in the Claremont area of the city when a man entered the house, and assaulted and strangled her, iAfrica.com reported.

The dead woman’s husband surprised the intruder, police spokesperson Angie Latchman said.

Mr. Clark then fell to the ground and pretended to be unconscious. He used this opportunity to activate the panic alarm.  It is unclear at this stage how entry was gained into the house.

Her funeral will be held in Capetown on on Thursday, while a memorial service will be held in Dublin at a later date.
