Man charged with manslaughter in Matt Farrell case

Bail has been refused for the 29-year-old charged with the killing of the publican last year.

A 29-YEAR-OLD man has been charged with the manslaughter of Offaly publican Matt Farrell at a special sitting of the District Court in Tullamore, RTÉ reports.

Eddie Wing with an address at Limerick Street, Roscrea, was arrested by gardaí on Sunday.

Matt Farrell, 64,was found dead at the Gaelic Bar, Daingain, on 1 April 2009. Farrell had run the pub for 30 years.

The gardaí have always maintained that Farrell died in an attempted robbery.

An application for bail was rejected by Justice William Hamill after gardaí objected. Wing will be remanded in custody to appear again at a sitting of the district court in Cloverhill on 22 October at 10.30am.

Farrell’s two sons were present in court for this morning’s hearing.
