Two men set for court, as another is arrested over 350kg cocaine seizure

The two men arrested on Tuesday over the record cocaine seizure will appear before Blanchardstown District Court.

Updated, 11:07

TWO MEN will appear in court this morning in connection with the seizure of over 350 kilograms of cocaine earlier this week.

The men, aged 42 and 31, will appear before Blanchardstown District Court, having been arrested on Tuesday when Gardaí seized the record haul.

Gardaí this morning arrested another man in the Drimnagh area, bringing the total number of arrests to three.

That man is being detained at Clondalkin Garda Station under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996.

The 350kg haul is the largest inland drug seizure in the history of the State, with a conservative estimate of its street value at around €28 million.

The drugs may be worth significantly more than that, however, if they were split up into smaller measures and ‘cut’ with other substances to increase their overall weight.

Garda investigators are continuing to work with police forces in other countries to identify the origins and destination of the drug.
