Man in his 30s dies after single-vehicle collision in Longford

The collision happened at around 12.45am on the N55 in Ballymahon.

A MAN IN his 30s has died following a single-vehicle collision in Co Longford in the early hours of this morning.

The collision happened at around 12.45am on the N55 in Ballymahon.

The driver of the car, a man in his 30s, was treated by emergency services at the scene but later died from his injuries.

His body was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Mullingar where a post-mortem will take place later. 

The road remains closed this morning and an examination of the scene by Forensic Collision Investigators currently under way.

Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are asked to make this footage available to Gardaí.
