Man dies following early-morning Carrickmacross assault

A post-mortem is due later today after a man in his 20s died from the injuries sustained in a Co Monaghan assault.

A MAN IN his 20s has died from his injuries after being assaulted in the early hours of yesterday morning in Co Monaghan.

The man was attacked shortly after 5am at Lisdoonan to the north of Carrickmacross, and was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where he later died from his injuries.

A man in his late teens was arrested in connection with the incident and remains in custody at Carrickmacross Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

A post-mortem on the victim is due later today.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the attack to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station at (042) 966 1222 or the Garda confidential line at 1800 666 111.
