Man in serious condition after falling from first floor of Limerick hospital

The HSE said it is looking into the incident.

THE HSE IS investigating after a patient attending University Hospital Limerick fell from a first floor at the hospital yesterday.

The man is believed to be in a serious condition, however HSE policy does not divulge to the media the conditions of patients under its care.

The man was attending the hospital’s Emergency Department (ED) prior to falling from a first floor mezzanine near a café, according to a hospital source.

The man is said to have walked out of the ED and made his way to an upper floor mezzanine where he fell to the ground floor.

When asked for comment the HSE stated:

UL Hospitals Group is aware of an incident involving a patient which took place yesterday evening (20 January 2016) in the Mezzanine area of the Outpatients Department at University Hospital Limerick (UHL).

“The incident is currently under review and UL Hospitals Group is unable to provide any further information in order to protect patient confidentiality,” it added.
