Man gets life for teenager's murder in Galway

Victim’s family travel from Czech Republic for sentencing.

A 24-YEAR-OLD MAN has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a woman in Galway in 2008, RTÉ reports. Jakub Fidler, originally from the Czech Republic, pleaded guilty to the murder of 19-year-old Nicola Vonkova, who also came from the Czech Republic.

Ms Vonkova was murdered in Inverin, Co Galway between 20 and 21 July 2008. Her family had travelled to Ireland for the sentencing and a statement from her mother was read to the court. In the address, Ms Vonkova’s mother said she was unable to accept her daughter’s death and the way she died.
