Man hospitalised after shooting in Portlaoise

A man in his 30s is shot in the leg on the Ballyfin Road, a residential area in Portlaoise, Co Laois.

A MAN in his 30s has been hospitalised after a shooting in a residential area of Portlaoise.

The incident happened shortly after 9am at the Hepburn Court area of Ballyfin Road, when it is understood that a house was entered by an armed man.

The injured man was wounded in the leg, and removed to Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise where his condition is not life-threatening.

Gardaí in Portlaoise have appealed for anyone who may have seen suspicious behaviour in the area between 8:30am and 9am to contact them at (057) 8674100, or at any Garda station.
