Man in court charged with attempted murder of PSNI officer

The 41-year-old is also charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

A MAN CHARGED with the attempted murder of a PSNI officer is to appear at a court in Northern Ireland later this morning.

The 41-year-old also faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon.

He was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning after PSNI officers were called to the site of a domestic dispute.

On trying to gain entry to the premises, one of the PSNI officers was attacked by the man. A second officer intervened and was slashed with a knife on the back of the head.

The accused had locked himself into the house with two children, aged three and one. Neither were injured in the incident.

Police maintaining a presence in the area during subsequent investigations were attacked with bricks, bottles and petrol bombs.

Today’s hearing will be held at Lisburn MC.
