Man in court over shooting of Mayo pensioner

Gardaí in Claremorris have charged a man arrested on Sunday over the fatal shooting of a 71-year-old man.

A 33-YEAR-OLD man has been charged in relation to a fatal shooting in Mayo over the weekend.

He is due to appear before Ballina District Court later this morning.

He was arrested shortly after the incident on Sunday in which a pensioner was short dead in a rural area of the county.

The 71-year-old victim, named locally as Tom Biggins, was seriously injured in the shooting at his home at Wallpark in the Glencorrib area. He was brought to hospital where he later died from his injuries.
