Man in his 40s killed in Athlone crash this afternoon

A female passenger has been removed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A MAN IN his 40s has died and a woman is in hospital after a crash in Athlone this afternoon.

The single vehicle collision happened on the M6 Athlone between Monksland Exit (Junction 13) and Ballinasloe East (Junction 14) westbound at around 3.20pm.

The driver of the car, a man in his early 40s, was removed to Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe where he was pronounced dead.

The female passenger was also removed to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Gardaí are investigating.
