Man in his 20s killed after crashing into ditch in Monaghan

The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A MAN IN his 20s has died after the car he was driving crashed into a ditch in Monaghan.

It happened at Lurgans, Carrickmacross at around 5am this morning.

The male driver and only occupant of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have been requested to examine the scene and the coroner has been notified of the death.

Last night, a 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a multi-vehicle crash in Athlone.

Gardaí at Carrickmacross are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Carrickmacross Garda Station 042-9690190, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
