Man killed, woman airlifted from Cork car crash

Another woman suffered minor injuries.

GARDAÍ IN FERMOY are investigating a two vehicle collision that left a 28-year-old dead and a woman in her 70s fighting for her life.

The crash occurred on the M8 northbound between Mitchelstown and Fermoy (at junctions 14 and 13) at around 2.40pm. today.

A 28-year-old man was fatally injured when the car he was travelling in collided with another vehicle. The female passenger of his car was removed to Cork University Hosipal with minor injuries. The female driver of the second car, a 71-year-old, was airlifted to CUH with serious injuries.

The M8, northbound between Junctions 13 and 14 is currently closed (at Kilworth and Mitchelstown) and local diversions are in place.

Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Fermoy Garda Station on 021 – 4522000, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
