Man killed in hit and run accident in Cork

The man in his 20s was knocked down by a van that failed to stop last night.

A MAN HAS been killed in a hit and run crash in Cork city centre last night.

The male pedestrian in his 20s was fatally injured when he was struck by a van on Georges Quay. The driver of the van failed to remain at the scene.

The incident occurred at around 9.30pm.

Fatally injured

The pedestrian was taken to Cork University Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The road was closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators but has since reopened.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to this collision and in particularly to the driver of what is described as a white  ‘Ford Transit’ type van, to contact them at Anglesea Street Garda Station on 021-4522000, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
