Man (50s) killed in hit-and-run in Limerick this afternoon

The car has since been recovered and a man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to the incident.

A MAN IN his 50s has been killed in a hit-and-run in Limerick city this afternoon, gardaí have said. 

The deceased was a pedestrian, and the car involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene. The car has since been recovered and a man in his 30s has been arrested in relation to the incident.

He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda station in the Southern Region.

The collision occurred on the Ennis Road shortly before 2pm. The road is currently closed pending an examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with any information on the movements of the car – a maroon-coloured Ford Focus, registration 141 C 3717 – around the time of the incident is asked to contact Gardaí.

Any road users who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision and who may have camera footage (including dash cam) are asked to contact gardaí.

Investigations are ongoing.
