Man killed in Mayo road crash

The 59-year-old died after his vehicle hit a wall this morning.

A MAN HAS been killed in a single-vehicle crash near Belmullet, Co Mayo.

The 59-year-old was fatally injured this morning when the vehicle he was driving collided with a wall at around 11.50am. The accident happened on the Belmullet to Blacksod road at Binghamstown.

The driver was taken to Mayo General Hospital in Castlebar, where he was pronounced dead. He was the only occupant of the  vehicle and nobody else was injured in the crash.

The road has been closed as gardaí mount a forensic investigation of the scene. It is expected to reopen later this evening.

Gardaí have appealed for any witnesses to contact them.
