Truck driver in his 40s killed in Westmeath

The road is currently closed.

GARDAÍ IN MULLINGAR are investigating a single vehicle traffic collision that left a man in his 40s dead.

The crash occurred on the N52 between Mullingar and Delvin in the townland of Williamstown, this afternoon at around 12.30pm.

The man, in his late 40s, was fatally injured when the truck he was driving left the road.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Mullingar Regional Hospital.

The road is currently closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

    Something needs to be done about that road. It is a death trap. Way to many corners and bends. Needs to be straightened out where possible. R.I.P.

    Rest in peace . Maybe if drivers altitudes changed to the conditions of the roads there might be less accidents making changes to a road is good in it’s own right but is it facilitating bad driving ?

    I travel the road twice a day 6 times a week, yes the road is twisty but the quality of driver is a sight to behold.not at all referring to the deceased. RIP

    100 kph is way too much for most of that road and needs to be revised ASAP. RIP….

    God rest his soul but a lot of single vehicle accidents are related to medical conditions and nothing to do with the road. So wait before blaming his speed, the bends, etc etc

    speed limits all over the country need to be reviewed. Especially the 60kph and 80kph, on country roads. And then 100 on dual carraigeways and 120 on motorways..

    Yeah, with modern cars and braking systems 120 on motorways is much too pedestrian.

    Speed limits on any single carraigeway should never exceed 80kmh.

    speeds on rural roads should be 100 km on motorways 150 km it’s plonkers that cannot drive end of
