Holding out for a hero.

BBC / YouTube

A MAN WHO fell onto the subway tracks in Philadelphia got a lucky escape after a fellow passenger jumped to help him.

The video of the incident was released by transport officials.

It shows how other passengers recoiled in shock after the man fell while walking along the edge of the platform.

Within seconds, the Good Samaritan had jumped down to pull him to safety.

Philadelphia CBS said the transport officials described the man as heroic, but warned of the dangers of getting onto the tracks.
