Man rescued from Clare coast passes away

A 51-year-old man who was taken from the water off the Co Clare coast yesterday has lost his life.

A MAN WHO was rescued after his vessel capsized off the Co Clare coast on Saturday has passed away.

The Valentia Coast Guard said that the man was angling alone in a small rubber dingy near Kilkee at about 2.30pm yesterday afternoon when his vessel capsized. A passer-by on a nearby cliff saw the incident and immediately contacted the authorities.

The man, who has been identified as a 51-year-old Latvian national, was brought to Limerick Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Gardaí say that his death is being treated as a tragic accident.
