A 49-YEAR-OLD man was sentenced for sexual activity with a child at Antrim Crown Court today.
The man was sentenced for offences including gross indecency towards a child, indecent assault, sexual activity by an adult with a child between the ages of 13 and 16, towards three young boys.
Chief Inspector Tracey Mageean said that he was pleased with today’s outcome and with the sentence handed down.
The term of an eight-year extended sentence reflects the seriousness of the abuse endured by the victims. He will also be placed on the sex offenders register for life and a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) was ordered to run indefinitely.
He said the sentence “sends out a strong message to those involved in the abuse of children that we are determined to make them amenable for their crimes”.
I would offer encouragement to anyone who has experienced abuse to come forward and report it to police. This case proves that even after a substantial period of time has passed it is still possible for a full investigation to be carried out, for a case to be placed before the courts and for justice to prevail.
