Gardaí launch murder investigation following death of 69-year-old man in Cork

The man was seriously injured following an incident at Glentrasna Court, The Glen, in Cork City on 11 March.

GARDAI HAVE ISSUED an appeal for information following a fatal assault on a 69-year-old man in Cork.

A murder investigation has been launched following the results of a post mortem.

The man was assaulted and seriously injured following an incident at Glentrasna Court, The Glen, in Cork City on 11 March.

However, he has died in hospital and was pronounced dead yesterday afternoon at Cork University Hospital.

A post-mortem was today completed by State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster. The results are not being disclosed for operational reasons.

Investigating gardaí have appealed to the public for assistance with this investigation.

They are keen to speak to anyone who was in the Glentransa Court area of the Glen on 11 March between 7.30pm and 8.30pm, and who witnessed the incident or who may have relevant.

Gardaí also appealed to people who may have video footage of the incident, to make this available to them.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Watercourse Road Garda Station on 021 455 8260, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

An incident room has been established at Watercourse Road Garda Station and a murder investigation has commenced under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer. A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed and will keep the family informed of the investigation.

At the time of the incident, a man in his late 20s arrested on 12 March and detained at Gurranabraher Garda Station.

He was later charged in connection with the alleged assault and is currently before the Courts.
