Man (60s) seriously injured in hit-and-run incident in Athlone

The incident happened on Northgate Street in Athlone at around 12.30am on Sunday.

A PEDESTRIAN IN his 60s has been seriously injured after a hit-and-run in the early hours of Sunday morning. 

The man was struck by a car on Northgate Street in Athlone at around 12.30am on Sunday. The car failed to remain at the scene.

The injured man was taken to Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where he continues to receive treatment for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the hit-and-run to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians who were on Northgate Street in Athlone between midnight and 12.45am on Sunday morning and who may have camera footage, including dash cam footage, is asked to make it available to them.
