Man who murdered fellow Irishman while on drugs given 17 years

The incident happened in February 2013.

A MAN HAS been sentenced to 17 years in prison in Australia after stabbing his fellow Irishman to death.

Vincent Martin Crowe confessed to stabbing 21-year-old Kenyon ‘Kenny’ Meyler in the neck while under the influence of the drug mephedrone on 10 February 2013.

Crowe stated that he had also drank an amount of alcohol during the evening and was fixated on a minor verbal altercation one of his friends had with the victim earlier in the night, News.com.au is reporting.

Meyler was originally from Wexford and spent a week in hospital before passing away.

It was originally reported that Crowe had been charged with grievous bodily harm.

During the case 35-year-old Crowe said that he could not remember the incident and pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

He was found guilty of the charge of murder at the Supreme Court of Western Australia.

Local news source WA Today has reported that Kenny Meyler’s mother appeared before the court expressing her remorse over the incident.

In Crowe’s defence, it was argued that he had not taken mephedrone before and was not aware of how it would impact on his behaviour.

Crowe’s defence lawyer Judith Fordham was contacted by TheJournal.ie but declined to comment.
