A WOMAN HAS been arrested over the fatal stabbing of a man near Citywest in Dublin this morning.

It is understood that the victim was attempting to start his car in the Brownsbarn estate near Citywest when he was confronted by the woman.

Gardaí confirmed this evening the victim was 39-year-old Gareth Kelly. A family liaison officer has been appointed to support his family.

Earlier, gardaí were called to the scene at around 7am today.

A woman aged in her 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently being held at Clondalkin garda station.

Gardaí do not believe that there is a personal relationship between the woman and the victim. Psychiatric assistance is being made available to the woman in custody.

The remains of Gareth Kelly have been removed to the Dublin City Morgue and the State Pathologist has been informed. A post-mortem will be carried out tomorrow morning.

The scene remains preserved and will remain cordoned off overnight.

In a statement, gardaí said they are investigating all the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing as there is “no known motive at this time”.

They are appealing to anyone who was in the Brownsbarn estate and Kingswood area between the hours of 6am and 7am today, who may have information in relation to this incident, to come forward.

Gardaí are particularly appealing to road users who may have dash camera footage. Anyone with any information should contact Clondalkin garda station on 01 666 7600, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
