Man swung his two-month-old baby by the leg

The 26-year-old admits cruelty to his son after the five-minute-long incident.

A FATHER IS to be sentenced by a court for swinging his two-month-old son back and forth by one leg.

The man, who can’t be named to protect the identity of the child, grabbed the baby by the left leg and swung him back and forth for five minutes, Derry Crown Court heard. The Irish News (subscription needed) reports today that the baby’s mother tried to stop the incident and also tried to phone police but the 26-year-old man took her phone from her.

The man pleaded guilty to cruelty against his son and the court heard that it was “an isolated incident”. It was described by his lawyer as a “moment o madness” and that the father has “limited cognitive ability”. He will be sentenced on Monday.
