Man to face charges in Matt Farrell case

A man will face charges in connection with the death of the Daingean publican last year.

A MAN IS expected to appear at a special sitting of the district court in Co Offaly today to face charges relating to the death of a Daingean publican last year, RTÉ reports.

The victim, 64-year-old Matt Farrell was found dead on the floor of his home in April of last year. Farrell had run the Gaelic bar in Daingean, Co Offaly for over 30 years.

A post mortem examination revealed that Farrell had died of serious head injuries.

Gardaí have consistently believed that Farrell died in a robbery attempt, and have examined the circumstances behind dozens of break-ins and robberies throughout the midlands in the 18 months following Farrell’s death.
