A POST-MORTEM has been carried out on the body of a man discovered in a lake.
The male’s body was discovered in Lough Ramor in Virginia yesterday.
The body was taken to a nearby hospital and the incident is being investigated by gardaí.
This evening, gardaí said a post-mortem had been carried out on the body earlier today. Results of this post-mortem, and toxicology test results, are due.
A formal identification is due to be made.
It is believed the man’s death was not suspicious, a garda spokesperson said.
The find came in an area where searches were taking place for Joseph Whelan, who has been missing from his home in Ashbourne for over two weeks.

They been looking for a man who went missing here for the past week or so. Hopefully its some form of closure for his family. The Guards have been an absolute disgrace I believe. Provided no help in the search apart from the helicopter for a few minutes on 2 occasions , wouldn’t call out the Civil Defense. Only for the mans family and friends there would be no search carried out at all even when clothing was found beside a river.

There is an estimated 365 lakes in Co Cavan while Lough Ramor is over five miles long by one mile wide. There was no previous indication that anyone was drowned there so why blame the guards, they don’t even have boats on the lake and neither do the civil defence
It is hardly roumers when close friends and family of the man, have been on radio and TV and social media claiming all of what I have said above.
But it is only rumours until its confirmed that it is that man .

Phil, the Times reported that the Garda Divers recovered the body, when they were searching lake Rammor. I assume the guards or civil defence or coast guard or any search group don’t just search lakes and rivers in the off chance they might find something. I would suggest that areas are searched based on credible information. It’s easy to slagg off state groups when they don’t do what you want and when you want it. Maybe these search groups are also searching for another missing person. Rte said another missing person was recovered from the boyne, who was missing two weeks. Should the search organisations leave the boyne search, where they knew someone for definite was missing in. To search a river or lake where someone might be missing in?
Now that would be a pretty grim discovery of a sunny Saturday evening.

Rest in Peace to this man and condolences to his family, friends, wife and children.
Not suspicious? ?? Bits of his clothing were found all over virginia and his car was found a kilometer from the lake.
No doubt they will investigate what happened to the poor man .the family need answers .
Not only was his car fournd in a private estate mostly ex-Dubs. He also walked through a forest to get to the lake, so he obviosly was familiar with the area.
Approx 500 people are listed as missing in Irl ea week. All but a handful turn up. The remainder go walkabout- for their reasons. If U are over 21 U are the author of Ur own fortune/misfortune . The authorities are saddled with a myriad of cases ,which in my humble opinion are the downside of mental illnesses .
